Cass County 911 Services

On Monday, May 24, 1999 at 8:00 a.m., the Cass County Communications Center began receiving 911 calls from all of Cass County. What does this mean for you? If you have an emergency, you can dial 9-1-I and communicate with the communications center. Your subscriber information, which is your name, address and telephone number, will be displayed on the screen.
This is the only information displayed. If you have a medical emergency, you will need to tell the dispatcher about the specific situation. Then the dispatcher will look at the screen, and decide which medical response team to summon. If the emergency is for a house fire next door, you should tell the dispatcher the fire is next door, not at your residence. If there is an accident at some other location, you will need to explain or give the location. Example would be this; there is an accident at the intersection of 590th St. and Victoria Rd, south east of Griswold. Cass County has a contract with US West to maintain the database. This database is managed by S.C.C. from Denver, Colorado. If you have a change of address, your phone company will transmit this data to S.C.C. They will then put this information in the computer, so if you call 9-1-1, the correct information will be on the screen. If there is ever a need for you to call 911, it should be noted there is about a 3-4 second break before you get the first ting. This call is going to Council Bluffs, then back to the communication center. When the call is received in Council Bluffs, it is gathering all you subscriber information to bring hack to the communication center. The only exception to this is the 762 (Anita) exchange, in this exchange, there: is a 5-6 second break. You will hear date tones in the Anita exchange. These tones were placed on the line to give the caller assurance the call is going through. Again, both of these breaks are normal. Other 911 regions have the same break. Please remain on the line, and don't hang up, as the time will just start over again.
The many hours the volunteer fire/rescue personnel in your area spend on training and response to your needs will now be further enhanced. All your fire/rescue personnel have pagers. When their services are needed, the communication center will summon them through their pager. Each fire Department is equipped with a printer. When a 911 call comes into the communication center, this subscriber information will be forwarded to the fire department. When the personnel arrive at the fire department they will have a printed copy of the subscribers information. When you see a fire/rescue personnel in your area, please give them a pat on the back fur what they are doing for you and your community. They help make this county a great place to call home.
The phone companies have been very helpful during this three-year project. They have worked with S.C.C. and Graphic Data Services in preparing the database. Thanks needs to be given to Ken Coffman, County Engineer, and all his staff. Many long hours have been put into making this project a success. They have driven the county roads checking on the placement and accuracy of all the signs. The office personnel continued to maintain the database and continued the upkeep after Graphic Data Services completed their work. They also coordinated with South Construction on the installation of all the signs. South Construction is almost completed their work. There are a few roadway and residential signs missing. These signs have been ordered and will be erected when they arrive. We are pleased with the work South Construction has done. The sheriff’s office and the Atlantic Police Department personnel have been very helpful. They have worked many hours with the engineer’s office, as well as attending 911 meetings. Needless to say, this bas been a joint community effort, with many people involved. Whether you are on the beard or was a member of the many committees formed to complete this task, a big thank you for all you have done for your community.
